Great time to view Mars

Mars is in opposition to Earth today, March 5 – the best time to view Mars for two years.  Venus & Jupiter are easy to find in the western sky, as they move towards their meeting (separated by only 3 degrees) on March 13.

The Big Dipper can help you find the backwards question mark that is the head of Leo the Lion, as well as The Red Planet. Just how red it will appear will depend on the ambient light.

Here it all is next to the full moon on March 7, at 7:30PM, plus Jupiter & Venus opposite in the West.  (You could see Mars just a bit further W or SW of the moon tonight or tomorrow.)  The full moon provides a nice assist, since it washes out most of the nearby stars, making it easier to find Mars.
