Same earth, better cameras?

These newer pictures are so much sharper they seem to glow in comparison, so “heavenly” as to not be real.  Click on the thumbnails to better appreciate them full-sized, or better yet click through to see even more mesmerizing images, including a grainy image shot by a camera launched from NM in 1946 on a V2 missile taken from the Germans – the first ever picture of Earth from space.

The  image on the left was just released by NASA after stitching together the work of multiple satellites; the photo on the right was taken in 1972 by astronauts aboard Apollo 17 and heretofore was probably the most famous ‘blue marble’ image.
